Favorite Book

"I'm Gonna Like Me" by Jamie Lee Curtis and Laura Cornell, is one of my favorite books to use in my daycare curriculum. This is a great book that focuses on the importance of a child liking themselves for who they are.  As a child's self-esteem grows so does other aspects of their social-emotional and cognitive growth.

  1. What a wonderful book to include in your curriculum. Self-esteem is lacking in so many children I see. A lack of self-esteem or happiness with themselves often leads to the child displaying bully type behaviors. I think self-esteem is especially important to young girls as they grow up and start making tough decisions. I think I'll have to check this book out for my own daughter.

  2. Thank you! I did my Capstone Project on adolescent bullying and what we can do as a community to help. Self-esteem was definitely a factor with the bullies, bully/victim, victims as well as the bystanders in some cases. When it comes to young girls, I have to agree, it is so tough with all the media and pressure that comes their way.

  3. Thank you for sharing your book. I have not heard of this one but I will incorporate it next year with my students. I get some students who come up to me and tell me they do not like themselves and I teach kindergarten. This will be a great book to use to teach about self esteem.

  4. That is such a great book to include in your curriculum. It seems to help kids develop a self esteem and a normal one at that. That's a very positive book to include.

  5. I just got this book for my son! I think that it is great to help students become secure in who they are. I really enjoy books like this. Have you read any of her other books?

  6. I also bought "Today I Feel Silly: And Other Moods That Make My Day" to put into my curriculum as well. The children seem to enjoy both of the books.

  7. Even though your childhood seemed to be difficult, I think it's wonderful that you are able to pull out the positives of each person you described. I'm sure your relationships with some of them were/are even stronger because you did have to deal with some obstacles. My husband had a less than ideal childhood, but that only helped to make him into a stronger individual today, I hope you are able to feel that way too!
